Logbook

This year, at Robotech, we have prepared a logbook to share some of the most important moments of our season, from the first days of work to the regional championship.

The logbook includes 45 posts where we explain parts of our process: how we organize ourselves, how we move forward, how we make decisions and how we evolve as a team throughout the challenge. It is not a record of everything we do, but a selection of moments, lessons learned and experiences that have marked our journey.

The goal is to share the way we work and inspire other teams. We believe that knowledge should circulate, and that is why we want to make part of our journey available to everyone, with ideas that other teams can adapt, improve and take even further.

1 - Start of the season: first meeting and goals

We held the first meeting of the season where we defined the goals we wanted to achieve both as a team and individually.

Each member shared what they hoped to improve and accomplish during the season.

This helped us start with clarity and commitment, strengthening teamwork and better preparing us for the challenges ahead.

2 - Task distribution

Together, we divided the tasks according to each team member’s strengths.

This made it easier for everyone to work in a more organized and efficient way.

We believed that organizing ourselves like this would help us progress better and avoid confusion.

3 - Material organization

We took the time to carefully and thoughtfully sort all the pieces. This task was essential to know exactly what we had and what we were missing. Although it was a repetitive job, we understood that it was key to avoiding mistakes later on.

We held brief meetings to assign responsibilities so we could move forward more orderly. Having everything organized from the start allowed us to focus better on the more creative and technical parts when the time came.

This preparation gave us confidence and helped prevent possible setbacks during the construction and programming of the project.

4 – Review and shopping list

We finished reviewing all the pieces we were missing to have every type. We carefully identified each item to create a clear and precise shopping list of what was needed.

This way, we made sure to buy only what was truly necessary, avoiding unnecessary expenses and having everything we needed to keep moving forward.

This process helped us prepare a solid foundation to start building the project missions.

5 – Mission construction

We began turning our 3D designs into real structures that we could touch and test. We worked patiently, adjusting details and solving problems as they came up.

This process reminded us of the importance of staying flexible and creative as we progressed. We followed each step carefully to ensure a solid build.

This stage gave us confidence and laid the groundwork to keep improving the project.

6 – Cleaning and preparing the board

We removed the missions from the previous season to clear the space. Then, we thoroughly cleaned the board to have a well-prepared surface.

Once clean, we placed a mat from a previous season but flipped upside down, intending to avoid visual distractions and mark the beginning of a new stage.

7 – Comparative programming tests

We conducted tests to compare two programming systems: Spike and Pybricks. We had each robot repeat the same route at maximum speed, intentionally causing errors to measure accuracy.

After several repetitions, we observed that Pybricks had much better precision and made fewer mistakes than Spike.

Based on these results, we decided to use Pybricks as our main system for the season.

8 – Attachments construction

We set to work building specific attachments for each mission. In just one day, we managed to have seven functional attachments, designed from the simplest to the most complex.

This work allowed us to optimize the launches and prepare the combination of accessories for the final attachments of each route.

9 – Preparation of project bases

We began preparing databases to organize the information that would allow us to contact experts and arrange related visits.

We gathered and classified the information in an orderly way to make it easier to access and manage the necessary contacts and resources.

This work was important because the initial sources we obtained provided relevant information that will help build a solid proposal.

10 – Individual training

Four team members participated in training courses. Marc took a course on organization and public speaking, followed by one on Python and artificial intelligence, both in Barcelona, while Àneu started learning Python from home. Sergi and Julià attended a Python course at UdL. This diverse training enriched us both individually and as a team.

Investing time in learning and exploring gave us new ideas and motivation to keep working enthusiastically.

We are convinced that this solid and varied foundation will be key to successfully facing the challenges of the season.

11 – Visit to the Archaeology Museum

Marc took advantage of his stay in Barcelona to visit the Archaeology Museum.

It was a cultural experience that offered us a new perspective and inspiration for the project.

The combination of technical training and cultural experiences enriched our approach.

12 - We are visited by a world-renowned former coach

Carlos, former coach of The Santperencs (Spanish champions 2011-2012) and the Dalton Brobots (FLL UK champions and Moonbots runners-up), visited us at the workshop accompanied by his grandson, Tomás. With great enthusiasm, he recalled those moments and showed deep admiration for what we are doing now.

It was a very enriching time, where we shared journeys and experiences that help us keep growing as a team.

We are very grateful for having shared this time with us, and moments like this motivate us to continue working with passion.

13 - Visit to Vilars of Arbeca

Josep Pau, former mayor of the town and a great expert on the fortress of Los Vilars de Arbeca, offered us a very enriching guided tour of this emblematic Iberian site.

After the tour, we had the opportunity to sit down with him for an open question-and-answer dialogue, delving into the history and various aspects of Iberian culture. During the conversation, we identified the three key stages of the archaeological process:

Identification
Excavation
Dissemination

These phases will serve as a guide to decide which one our project will focus on.

This visit, framed within our innovation project, has allowed us to establish a direct connection with local history and has enriched our collective perspective.

14 - Visit to the Museu de Lleida and the Seu Vella

With the aim of acquiring new knowledge about archaeology and ancient civilizations, we decided to visit the Museu de Lleida. Throughout the tour, we were able to observe a wide variety of objects ranging from prehistory to the 20th century, such as archaeological materials, sculptures, tools, paintings, and coins. The visit also included a stop at the Seu Vella, one of the most emblematic cathedrals in the region, where we admired Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements of great historical value.

At the museum, we learned directly through the observation of the exhibited pieces. Additionally, we got to know up close the process followed to conserve and display the found objects: from the initial excavation to their preparation for public exhibition. This experience allowed us to approach the working methods specific to archaeology and understand how a collection is organized.

In short, the visit was very enriching, as it helped us better understand ancient civilizations and their influence on the present. At the same time, it made us more aware of the challenges facing archaeology today, and it provided us with useful knowledge to continue deepening our study in this field.

15 - Robot Structure

One of the notable innovations in the robot project has been creating a replica of the robot without motors. The structure maintains the same dimensions as the original.

This template has allowed the team to divide tasks: while some work with the real robot to program it, others use the replica to take measurements and build accessories with precision.

This solution has helped optimize time and improve group coordination, making it possible to work more quickly and efficiently.

16 - Video calls with archaeological experts

We’ve started talking to archaeologists from across Spain to strengthen our project. Some conversations have been by email, but others we’ve had face-to-face or via video call.

These meetings have helped us answer questions, spark new ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of our topic. We still have a few sessions ahead that we’re sure will bring great value.

Speaking directly with people who live and breathe archaeology inspires us and gives us the confidence to keep improving.

17 - Visita a Aldeatrón Robotix

We visited Aldeatrón Robotix, champions of FLL Spain and third in the world in 2022. It was a unique opportunity to learn about their journey, gain insights from their experience, and see how they work day-to-day.

We were welcomed by Tony Cuesta (coach) and Samuel (team member), who showed us their facilities and some of the projects that have shaped their history. We exchanged ideas, strategies, and stories in a knowledge-sharing meeting.

These visits are a great source of motivation for us to keep growing as a team. They remind us that behind great results there is dedication, teamwork, passion, and values that unite and strengthen our community.

18 - More archaeological visits

Marc took advantage of his stay in the Canary Islands to visit the Pyramids of Güímar, the Museum of Nature and Archaeology, and the El Tendal Archaeological Park in La Palma. Oriol visited the Archaeological Museum of Banyoles, and Àneu joined a guided tour of Pamplona with an archaeologist.

These trips allowed us to see historical structures, pre-Hispanic remains, and archaeological pieces up close, as well as speak with professionals working in heritage research and conservation.

We gained a clearer understanding of archaeologists’ real work, the challenges they face, and the importance of preserving history. This knowledge will help us bring greater realism and depth to our project.

19 - Visit to team Mindfactory

Julià visited Mindfactory, a Swiss team with a long-standing presence in FLL. This year, they were runners-up at the DACH final (Switzerland, Germany, and Austria) and world champions at the Open Invitational in South Africa.

The visit was truly enriching. They shared how they organize their team, how their robot works, and some of their strategies. Mindfactory welcomed him warmly and were open to exchanging ideas.

Meeting such experienced teams broadens our perspective and reveals different approaches to teamwork. This visit highlights the strength of the FLL community and encourages us to keep sharing and growing together.

20 - Presentation at the FIRST Workshop

We took part in the FIRST Workshop hosted by Flyset, held in a hybrid format from Texas. This international event brings together teams from around the world to share experiences, knowledge, and inspiration.

In our session, we shared who we are, how we work, and what drives us to keep growing as a team. We also offered some practical tips for the FLL Unearthed season, based on everything we've learned over the years.

Being part of initiatives like this connects us with a global community that shares our values. It helps us exchange approaches and inspire one another to take on new challenges with more tools and renewed energy.

21 - Archaeological Connections

Àneu visited three archaeology-related sites that proved especially inspiring. She started at CAREX, the Archaeological Experimental Centre, where she had a great conversation with Iván, an archaeologist who showed genuine interest in the project and even gifted her a book on AI and archaeology.

She also explored the MEH, the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos, where she learned how our species has evolved and how researchers study the Atapuerca site, bridging science with human history.

Finally, she toured the Atapuerca site itself, where she met Pedro and another archaeologist. Their conversation sparked new reflections on real challenges in the field, revealing questions they hadn’t considered before and offering new insights for the project.

22- Recording errors

To detect the origin of the robot’s errors—both the ones we had already encountered and the ones we could anticipate—we decided to test two techniques: slow-motion recording and the incorporation of waits in the programming.

We recorded the runs in slow motion to observe each movement in detail and spot misalignments that go unnoticed at normal speed. At the same time, we added pauses between all motor movements to analyze live, step by step, where the errors occurred.

This method allows us to better understand whether the errors come from construction or programming. It’s a simple practice to replicate that helps us improve the robot game and face the missions with greater confidence.

23 - 545/545 in 2:26

This weekend we took a big step forward in the robot game. We tested the new attachments already adapted to the official missions and managed to score 545/545 points in just 2:26, the maximum possible score within the time limit.

The result came after trying them directly on the official field, fine-tuning every detail and executing the full run with precision.

Achieving this perfect run is a huge boost and confirms that we are on the right track to face the upcoming challenges.

24 – Selecting the Perfect Project

Over the past few weeks, we’ve focused all our efforts on the innovation project. From more than sixty ideas, we selected ten and, after a team meeting, chose four as the finalists.

We organized ourselves into three pairs: one working on the model, one on the presentation, and one on the research. Each week, we dedicate time to developing one of the finalist ideas, setting clear goals and sharing results to move forward efficiently.

At the end of each week, we come together to review what’s been achieved and what can be improved. This dynamic helps us evaluate different possibilities before taking the next step.

25 – Visiting Natàlia Alonso

We visited Dr. Natàlia Alonso at her laboratory at the University of Lleida, where we presented to her the four finalist innovation projects from Robotech. She offered us a clear perspective on each one, highlighting what already worked well and suggesting improvements that could make them more solid and useful.

After her feedback, Natàlia showed us the work of her laboratory, where technology and historical research coexist to study the past. This combination of disciplines helped us understand how more complete and grounded projects can be created.

We left with the feeling of having learned from an expert who knows how to transform research into applicable knowledge. Her external viewpoint made us rethink some ideas and strengthen others, reminding us that innovating also means listening, observing, and knowing how to connect with those who can help us grow.

26 - Poblat ibèric de Gebut

This Sunday we went to the Iberian settlement of Gebut, in Soses, where theatrical visits were being held with the team of archaeologists from the UdL. The activity allowed us to see how they explain the life of the Iberians in a close and engaging way, connecting research and outreach.

During the visit we were able to talk with some of the researchers and share some of our ideas and projects with them. They gave us a different perspective on how they work and how they understand the past, as well as what their needs are.

We left with the feeling of having discovered a unique place and having learned from a team that knows how to convey passion for history. We came away with new perspectives and a desire to keep learning to improve our proposals.

27 – Visit to the Guissona Archaeological Sites

After contacting the Historical Museum of Guissona, we were given the opportunity to visit its archaeological sites. So, on Saturday, October 18, we went to Guissona, where we were welcomed by Josep Ros, the municipal archaeologist and museum curator.

Josep gave us the chance to learn first-hand how archaeologists work in their day-to-day tasks. He explained his work step by step, both the fieldwork and the documentation process, which helped us better understand his role.

Finally, we presented our projects to him to hear his opinion and find out whether they were truly feasible. This helped us assess whether we were on the right track.

28 – The Two Finalists

With the two finalist ideas already chosen, over the last few weeks we focused on improving the prototypes and preparing the presentations so we could showcase them later on.

We organized a meeting with family and friends, where we presented the two finalist proposals. We displayed them in different ways to understand their impressions and gather external opinions.

To conclude, we held individual votes and then shared our thoughts to decide which idea was the most suitable. This is how we selected our final project.

29 - Gesbots visit us

This monday we had the pleasure of receiving a visit from the GesBots team, a group from Torelló with whom we were very excited to share some time. Like us, they created their team on their own initiative, without depending on any school or institution.

During the visit, we shared the knowledge we have gained over the past few years, with the goal of helping them in any way we could. At the same time, they also told us about their experience, and we exchanged insights that turned out to be very useful.

This meeting allowed us to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen the bonds between teams with similar interests.

30 – Interview with the El Rovell Association

The El Rovell Association visited us and interviewed us, and they included it in their news booklet. It was an opportunity to explain who we are, our experience, and the competition we take part in.

The conversation was close and straightforward: we answered questions about how our team works, how we approach our daily tasks, and what we have learned along the way. They gathered the key ideas to show how we work and what drives us.

This exposure helps us to make ourselves known, to better explain our project, and to strengthen the community around us. Thank you to El Rovell for their interest and for giving us a platform!

31 – Video call with FIRST LEGO League Lleida

We attended the FLL EPS Experts Meeting on Monday, November 24th at 6:00 p.m., organized by FLL Lleida (Ferran Lega) and the Higher Polytechnic School (Magda Valls). The session, focused on the 2025–26 UNEARTHED edition, featured Natàlia Alonso and Ariadna Nieto, archaeologists from the UdL’s GIP group.

The meeting was very useful: they explained the different fields of archaeology and its main challenges. They also answered questions from the teams.

We came away with more learning, new perspectives, and stronger ties with the FLL community, and we will face the project with greater clarity.

32 - Reverse Engineering

At Robotech, we worked on Reverse Engineering to review the accessories we had already built and better understand how they worked.

We rebuilt the accessories to identify poorly reinforced parts and evaluate whether other mechanisms could work better for the missions.

This process allowed us to identify errors and weaknesses before moving forward, improving the reliability of the accessories and the safety of our work as a team.

33 - Logos and names

Once the project was decided, at Robotech we began working on choosing the name and the logo that would represent it.

For the names, we created a list of proposals and rated them according to different criteria. As for the logos, each member designed several options, and then we all classified them using a color system: red for those we didn’t like, green for those we did, and gold for the finalists.

This process helped us make a consensual decision that was coherent with the project, ensuring that both the name and the logo correctly represented the team’s identity.

34 - Iteration and Analysis: with FLLPlanner Scorer

We keep running rounds and log them in the cloud using the FLLPlanner Scorer we created (free at scorer.fllplanner.com) to keep all data organized.

We record points, errors, and areas for improvement in each attempt, and compare iterations to see what changes and what remains stable.

This helps us prioritize improvements with clear criteria and increase reliability, while sharing learning within the team.

35 - Inspiring visit from Josep Lluís Ribes

Today we welcomed a visit from Josep Lluís Ribes, a veteran local archaeologist, who shared his professional journey and how archaeology has evolved with new parameters to better understand the past.

We presented our selected project as well as some discarded alternatives; his feedback confirmed that we are on the right track and highlighted specific areas where we can still improve.

Bringing in the perspective of an external expert gives us context and stronger judgment as a Robotech team: we leave grateful, with more clarity and a clearer next step.

36 – Non-stop Christmas

During the Christmas holidays, at Robotech we didn’t slow down. Even though they were special days, we kept meeting with the same motivation to continue moving the project forward and make the most of every session.

We focused mainly on assembling the project’s model, adjusting parts and taking care of the details so that everything fit together correctly. Working at a calmer pace allowed us to better understand the whole system and strengthen the project’s foundation.

These days have been a clear example of commitment and consistency—values that define us as a team and help us maintain the rhythm of the season.

37 – Testing and improvements

At the same time, we have been improving the robot’s attachments, testing different designs and making adjustments to make them more efficient and better suited to the missions.

We have also run many robot rounds to detect errors, understand them, and fix them. This repetitive process has helped us get to know the robot better and gain confidence.

All this work, even though it is not always visible, is key to continuing to move forward.

38 – Hub change and back on track

After many hours of practice, one of the hubs started throwing intermittent and unpredictable errors. To avoid surprises during the rounds, we chose to replace it immediately and ensure reliability on every run.

We checked connections and the battery, reproduced the error, removed the hub, installed the spare one, and recalibrated sensors and motors. A couple of trajectory and braking tests confirmed that the robot was once again hitting its times and positions accurately.

This preventive maintenance is essential at Robotech: it prevents lost points, gives the team peace of mind, and keeps the training rhythm strong. Takeaway: plan weekly mini check-ups, log incidents, and always carry essential spare parts in your kit.

39 - Routes One by One

In a specific work session, we decided to analyze the robot’s performance in greater detail. Instead of running full rounds, we executed the missions one by one.

We repeated each run several times to detect differences and small changes, helping us better understand what was happening at every step of the route.

At the end of the day, we shared all the information we had gathered as a team in order to keep improving the robot.

40- Continuar amb la maqueta

We continue building the model of our machine and adjusting parts so it becomes solid and well assembled.

We are refining details such as tightening screws, drilling holes, and carefully attaching components, while also 3D-printing new pieces, testing fittings, and advancing the programming to ensure everything works properly.

This process is helping us grow as a team: every decision and every test gives us real learning experiences, and attention to detail will ultimately make the difference in the final result.

41- Rehearsal and Preparation Afternoon

Today we invited an audience to test our presentation and see how it was understood from the outside.

We spent the afternoon rehearsing it again and again, practicing both the project and the robot sections, while reviewing the order, timing, and flow of each explanation.

Based on what we observed, we refined details, corrected small mistakes, and made the presentation clearer and more confident for the judges.

42- Visit from the Robotics Group of Institut Terres de Ponent

Yesterday we welcomed a robotics group from Institut Terres de Ponent and shared a very enriching time talking about robots and how we make them work.

We exchanged ideas, discussed solutions, and compared ways of working, explaining what has worked well for us and what we are still improving, both in design and programming.

The visit was a great opportunity to connect with other young people who share the same passion for technology and to gain new perspectives that can inspire us on our own journey.

43- Videocall with COORDENADS

On Thursday, as has become a tradition, we had the opportunity to connect via videocall with the team from Artesa and spend some time together.

It was an afternoon to motivate each other, catch up, and share our enthusiasm for the FIRST LEGO League, talking about how our projects and robots are progressing.

We’re looking forward to meeting again soon and continuing to share this adventure. See you at the regional!

44- Visit to VEMO LEGO ARQUEOBOTS

On Friday, we visited the VEMO LEGO ARQUEOBOTS team at Vedruna Mollerussa school, a place that holds special meaning for us because it’s where our FLL journey first began.

We spent some time talking about the robot, training sessions, and everything you learn when you take on challenges and solve them as a team.

Going back helps us remember where we come from and, at the same time, share motivation and confidence with those who are just starting out. In the end, FLL is also about building connections and growing the community together.

45 - Champions for the third year in a row! Heading to the national final in Burgos

This year we once again faced new challenges, but with the same motivation and enthusiasm as always. At the FIRST LEGO League competition in Lleida, we had the opportunity to share all the work we prepared throughout the season, and we are very proud to have presented it to the FLL community.

We would also like to thank the organizers —FLL Spain, EPS UdL, Lleida TV, Ajuntament de Lleida, Ingeniera Soy and FIRST— for making this event possible and for continuing to promote a space where teams can learn, experiment and grow.

We also want to congratulate team ADS, the second team qualified for the national final, and to congratulate all the teams, volunteers, coaches, high schools, schools, authorities and families who make this experience possible.

Next stop: the national final in Burgos, on April 11.
